Western Sydney totem Nikolai Topor-Stanley deserves a return to the national fold when Holger Osieck names his latest Socceroos squad on Wednesday, according to the man who has spent the whole season stationed behind the 191cm defender.

Osieck was at Parramatta Stadium on Sunday to scout Topor-Stanley, with his squad to face Oman in a World Cup qualifier likely to contain several A-League names.

Korean-based defender Robert Cornthwaite will undoubtedly be included, but there are believed to be injury concerns over Matthew Spiranovic and Socceroos captain Lucas Neill is suspended.

Western Sydney keeper Ante Covic, who was in Guus Hiddink's squad for the 2006 World Cup, said Topor-Stanley was the standout choice from the A-League, having made his last appearance for Australia almost five years ago.

Holger Osieck praised Michael Thwaite and Jade North, Mark Bosnich thinks Rhyan Grant could be a bolter, which defenders do you want to see selected?

"Speaking selfishly it would be disappointing for us as a team if he missed a game, as he's very important to us," Covic said.

"But he's proven this season that he's one of, if not the, form central defender in the league. He's been immense for us and not put a foot wrong.

"Long may that continue and I wish him all the best. From a team point of view, we'll just have to deal with it if he does get called up."
