Thomas Broich is the inaugural winner of the ME Bank Green Card for Fairer Play Award, Football Federation Australia announced at Sunday's grand final.
Broich was crowned the winner by fans and a ‘Green Card Panel’ of sports and media personalities, beating nominees Jerrard Tyson (Western Sydney Wanderers FC) and Leigh Broxham (Melbourne Victory FC).
The Brisbane Roar star wasn’t shown a yellow card the entire season, and off the field, he has been heavily involved in Roar’s community program with Mission Australia.
The ME Bank Green Card for Fairer Play Award rewards the good guys in Aussie football, recognising and supporting "significant gestures of fairer play within the Hyundai A-League community both on and off the field".
"The Award embodies our belief that all Australians deserve a ‘fair go’, whether it’s on the football field, in the community, or in banking," ME Bank chief executive Jamie McPhee said.
"We’ve had a fantastic response to the Award with more than 2000 people voting for the winner. We’re looking forward to rolling out the same Award to grassroots clubs around Australia."
The grassroots program kicks off this season and encourages community members to nominate acts of fairer play within junior football leagues across Australia. An FFA representative will be responsible for selecting the final winner.
