Gold Coast Suns skipper Gary Ablett has declared his father the greatest player in AFL history in a frank assessment of comparisons between the careers of the two players.
Ablett Sr kicked over 1000 goals in a 248-game career packed full of breathtaking marks and unbelievable goals.
He was named in the AFL's Team of the Century, won three Coleman Medals, and was All Australian four times.
The trophies of his son - including two premierships, the Brownlow Medal, and six All Australian selections - are more impressive.
But the 28-year-old is certain he still trails his old man.
FOX FOOTY will play host to three of the biggest names in the AFL world on Monday night with Kevin Sheedy, Andrew Demetriou and Gary Ablett all appearing on a massive night of television. It starts with AFL 360 at 7.30pm (EDT), then On The Couch (8.30pm), and Open Mike (9.30pm).
"It is flattering," Ablett said in Monday night's Open Mike on FOX FOOTY.
"But I have always said, and I have been asked this question (are you better than your dad) a lot of times, that I don't even think I am close.
"In my opinion my dad is the best player to ever play the game.
"Some of the things that he could do no one else could do.
"People are always going to have their opinions but at the end of the day I would have to finish my footy career very well to be put up there with my dad."
Ablett and Mike Sheahan sit down for an entertaining half hour chat on FOX FOOTY at 9.30pm (EDT) on Monday night.
