Geelong midfielder James Kelly will head to the AFL Tribunal on Tuesday night to challenge a two-match ban for a high bump on Essendon's Brendon Goddard.
Should James Kelly have been suspended for his shot on Brendon Goddard?
It's set tongues wagging in AFL land, and in perhaps the most poignant indication Kelly was unlucky to be sighted, Goddard himself will give evidence for the Cats midfielder.
Kelly was hit with the penalty by the match review panel for a heavy bump to Goddard in the third quarter at Etihad Stadium last Friday night.
The MRP assessed the incident as reckless conduct with low impact.
Kelly is not risking an extra match being added to his penalty even if he fails to convince the three-man jury to overturn his penalty.
After the match on Friday night, Goddard tweeted: “Good hit last night @JamesPopsKelly. Old fashioned shirt front #fair game #play-on #memory bank.”
