Former Sydney premiership coach Paul Roos says he has no interest in taking the reins at embattled Melbourne.

Speaking on Fox Footy's On The Couch, Roos quashed speculation he would consider the top job at the struggling Demons, saying he couldn't see himself coaching at AFL level again.

The 202-game coaching veteran has been linked with the Melbourne role as the Mark Neeld-led Demons endure one of their worst and most disappointing starts to an AFL season in decades.

But he said the task of dragging the team off the AFL scrapheap was "not on my radar at all".

"It doesn't interest me, I enjoy what I'm doing so in the here and the now I just can't see myself doing it", Roos said.

Roos, who led the Swans to the 2005 flag, said not even a huge payday wouldn't lure him back into the coach's box.

"If you do it just for money then I'm the wrong coach," he said.

He also said he wasn't considering throwing his hat in the ring for out of contract West Coast coach John Worsfold's job.

"It wouldn't matter what club. My mindset is not to coach so that would have to change dramatically for me to coach any team."

Roos said he was surprised Neeld said publicly that the young Gold Coast team out-muscled Melbourne in Sunday's 60-point thrashing.

"I don't think you can sugar coat the loss."

"You would think the last thing a coach would say, you're going to be outsized by a second-year team."
