Western Sydney Wanderers have wasted no time shaking up their playing squad after their inaugural season, releasing Dino Kresinger, Tarek Elrich, Joey Gibbs and Rocky Visconte from their Premiers' Plate-winning squad.

Elrich was one of the first players signed by the club, but fell behind Jerome Polenz in Tony Popovic's pecking order.

The club's success came despite the lack of an out-and-out goalscorer up front, and the decision to not renew Kresinger or Gibbs's contracts gives a big indication about where the club will be hunting in the transfer market this off-season.

Visconte, who scored a cracking goal against Newcastle Jets, was signed mid-season by Popovic from Brisbane Roar.

"The inaugural season for the Western Sydney Wanderers has been an amazing journey for the players, coaching staff, club, partners and fans," the club's executive chairman Lyall Gorman said in a statement.

"Dino, Tarek, Joey and Rocky were all part of this journey and all played an integral part in the success of the club and winning the Premiers Plate in this historic season.

"It’s unfortunate that we are unable to retain all of the squad.

"The Wanderers door will always be open to Dino, Tarek, Rocky and Joey and no one should ever underestimate their contribution to this, our foundation season. We wish them well in their future football endeavours".
